:: Jerry Lee Lewis :: End Of The Road :: from “The Jerry Lee Lewis Anthology: All Killer No Filler!”
Jerry Lee Lewis is an American rock and roll and country music singer-songwriter and pianist. Lewis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, and in 2003, Rolling Stone Magazine listed his box set All Killer, No Filler: The Anthology number 242 on their list of “500 greatest albums of all time”. Jerry Lee Lewis is the last surviving member of both Sun Records Class of ‘55 and the Million Dollar Quartet which also included Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley.
I know his whole persona and biography is wrapped up in scandal and confrontation, but his music is just so much more exciting than Elvis and any of the rest of the early rock n roll guys. Turns out he’s kind of my favorite. Who knew?

:: Frank Sinatra :: Young At Heart :: from “A Man And His Music” ::
A Man and His Music is a 1965 double album by Frank Sinatra. It provides a brief retrospective of Sinatra’s musical career. There is also a narration from Sinatra that runs throughout the album. It won the 1967 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
I really didn’t realize how nice Frank Sinatra’s voice is until I listened to everything else from the time period. He’s really the smoothest. And, as the narration here shows, super charming! He even does a little self-deprecation, which I would not have guessed.
Listen to it now before Tumblr glitches out!

A fascinating article about Vaughn Meader, a JFK impersonator who won the Grammy for Album of the Year for a 1962 JFK-themed comedy record, before having his career understandably cut short a year later. (The album, incidentally, is pretty damned funny.)
Read the article now and be an expert when the Vaughn Meader biopic Bill Hader is working on comes out.

Good stuff! Ooh la la, French! Apparently Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley cover this song live, so I’ll probably be posting a video of that later.

I know that maybe I should post an original tune by these guys, but this one’s just so good, I can’t resist. Don’t worry, there are many more opportunities to show off how good their songs are. And after all, most of early rock n roll was about covers anyway.
Originally released in 1963.

Well, I could just listen to this over and over again. So I will.
